Project Delta Sigma Phi – KSU
The physical building occupied by the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi holds a unique place within the history and fabric of the Manhattan community. The original structure opened in 1907 as a YMCA, was converted to a St Mary’s Hospital in 1926, and in 1955 was converted again to serve the current house chapter.
BBN Architects provided planning and design services for a comprehensive interior renovation and exterior improvement project. Improvements include a major remodel of the living areas, lounge, and study areas, sleep rooms featuring built-in lofts, and reconfigured restrooms. Significant structural reinforcing improvements were made in the original structure in addition to life-safety fire sprinkler improvements, new mechanical systems, new kitchen equipment and layout, and technology upgrades. As the structure was recently added to the Register of Historic Kansas Places, this improvement work was conducted under the State Rehabilitation Tax Credit program.
