Project Lea McKeighan Park North

BBN led the master planning of Lea McKeighan Park North with the challenge to complement the successes of the neighboring park and develop it into a four season destination. The resulting design not only expands the types of recreational opportunities the city has to offer, but also extends the park season through the winter months.

Headlining the park’s attractions is an ice rink that hosts open skating and pond hockey tournaments. The adjacent building offers skate rental, concessions, restrooms, and a place to warm up. Fire pits and Adirondack chairs provide a comfortable setting for rink-side viewing.

After the skate season is over, the rink is transformed into three pickleball courts for regular tournaments and walk-in traffic. The concessions building is open year-round as well, so visitors can rent pickle ball equipment or cool off in the air-conditioned concessions area. During this same season, an array of over 25 spray fixtures at the splash pad bring this central space to life. For those looking for drier forms of recreation, this park offers a generously equipped playground, half-mile trail loop, skate park, and sand volleyball courts.
