Project Library District Streetscape

The adaptive reuse of the historic First National Bank Building into the main headquarters of the KCMO Public Library provided the stimulus for an area-wide revitalization in the core of downtown Kansas City that included redevelopment projects designed to convert the district from commercial/industrial to mixed-use occupancy. Streetscape improvements that identify the unique qualities of the Library District have been completed for a 32-block area.

“…a pedestrian-friendly, active and engaging environment has been created through the visual coherence, continuity and quality of the streetscape. The streetscape, with its historic streetlamps, brick pavers and traffic calming elements has helped create a shared sense of place where members of a community may congregate, play, visit, take care of business, research and live.”
