Project Bishop Seabury Academy

BBN Architects provided Campus Master Plan and full design services for the Bishop Seabury Academy in Lawrence, Kansas; a private Episcopal 6-12 school founded in 1994. BBN engaged faculty, administration, board members, students and parents, in a highly interactive process to evaluate the functionality and efficiency of the existing campus buildings and explore how construction of new facilities could enhance the educational experience of their students and accommodate increased enrollment.

The $5.4 million Phase I expansion project consists of a 23,600 s.f. addition that is strategically configured to link two existing classroom buildings. A new formal entry feature, reminiscent of a traditional college preparatory school, reinforces the reorganization into a cohesive whole.

BBN facilitated a lengthy Special Use Permit process with the City of Lawrence, Kansas prior to completing the Contract Documents. The Phase I building will provide additional classrooms, science wing, administrative office wing, senior lounge, kitchen, culinary classroom and large commons room to accommodate all-school lunches, morning meetings and other large gatherings.
