Kansas City Envisions a Cultural District –
Arts + Education are Central Ideas

BBN Architects in association with Collins Noteis & Associates, Bartleby Content, Draper Communications, and Hoop Dog Studio recently presented the final recommendations for establishing a Cultural District in midtown Kansas City focused on Arts + Education. The year-long planning process engaged over 300 participants in work team sessions, student workshops and planning charrettes, and the planning team met regularly with representatives from each institution to vet and refine ideas.

The result is a concept that strengthens East/West connections, promotes more collaborative programming between institutions, respects the historical signature of the area, provides a balance of amenities for residents and tourists of all ages, and sets the tone for future improvements that will enhance the vibrancy, accessibility and identifiable district features as the center of Kansas City’s Cultural Arts + Education scene.

DIRTT Build Better –
Design Competition

BBN Architects competed in the DIRTT Build Better – Design Competition, sponsored by DIRTT Environmental Solutions, on February 3, 2015 in Kansas City. BBN’s team of Austin Massoth, Erin Quigley, Aaron Dyck and Veronika Carrender secured a win!

They were given an empty floor plan and had 2 hours to transform the plan into an innovative space. Judging was based on functionality and aesthetics of the space as well as the best use of DIRTT products.

The BBN team will travel to Phoenix, Arizona in March 2015 to tour the DIRTT manufacturing plant and Green Learning Center. They will also have the chance to take an early look at the Kansas City Royals by attending Spring Training.
